When did the new plans roll out? What will I notice?
On Oct 1, 2019, we rolled out a new slate of Gradient Subscriptions.
If you signed up for Gradient prior to Oct 1, 2019, your Subscription plan is now considered a Legacy plan. Besides the "Legacy" name change, nothing else changes for you immediately except that, if you wish to switch plans, you will only be able to select from among the new Subscription plans.
If you signed up starting on Oct 1, 2019, you will automatically be on a new Subscription plan.
You can see your current plan, including if it's a Legacy plan, in the Console on the Upgrade page or under Billing. Visit Billing by clicking on your User avatar at the top-right of the Console and then clicking Billing.
What are the different plans? How do I switch?
The new subscription plans have the same names as the Legacy ones:
- for Private Workspaces: Free, G1, & G2
- for Teams: T0, T1, & T2
Pricing for each plan remains the same as well. You can view pricing information for all Gradient Subscriptions here. Note that the new Free Instances are available to all Private Workspace (G*) plans.
All Private Workspaces and Teams can switch to a new plan when you visit the Upgrade page. There, you can also see what your current Subscription plan is. Legacy plan users will see a banner notification on the Upgrade page as well.
How does Persistent Storage work? And resizing when switching plans?
Each Subscription plan has a different Persistent Storage size allocation, which is shared by jobs, notebooks, and machines in your account.
Note that for Team plans, Persistent Storage is per-team, not per-user.
When you upgrade plans, your storage will resize once you run your next job, notebook, or machine.
When you downgrade plans, your storage will resize at the end of the month, at the same time that your new subscription takes effect.
Please see the Persistent Storage docs for more specific and technical information.
What is machine utilization?
Each Subscription plan, including the Free (Private Workspace) plan, includes charges for machine utilization, such as the hourly rate for that machine instance while in use. Free Instances do not incur machine utilization charges, but all Paid Instances do – you'll see the price on the instance type when creating your notebook (or job).
Why did we roll out new plans?
We rolled out the new plans for a number of reasons! One of the biggest is, they make it possible for us to offer our upcoming Public Notebooks feature! Note that any Notebooks that you run on free machine Instance Types will be Public-only once Public Notebooks roll out, which will be very soon :)
What's the difference between new and Legacy plans?
These new Subscription Plans restrict the machine Instance Types that are available to each plan, and they allow the Free Tier of machine Instance Types to be available to Free plans.
Please note that if you switch from a Legacy plan to a new plan, or if you downgrade between new plans, any Jobs or Notebooks that used Instance Types that may now be restricted to a higher tier, will need to be switched to an Instance Type available within your new plan. Long-running jobs on Instance Types that are no longer available to a new plan that you switch to, may experience unknown UX issues.
Do Gradient Subscriptions affect Core?
Nope!
What if something goes wrong with my Subscription plan?
